Attributes for each element:

Following Dublin Core, each element is defined using a set of ten attributes from the ISO/IEC 11179 [ISO11179] standard for the description of data elements. These include:

Five of the above ten attributes are common to all the elements. These are, with their respective values:

The above attributes will not be repeated in the following definitions; however, they do represent part of the formal element definitions.? The first block of elements, KOS Title through Rights, correspond closely to the Dublin Core (DC) element set.? These elements are intended for creating metadata descriptions that will facilitate the discovery of KOS resources.? The designation KOS has been added to the element name when the DC definition has been altered to accommodate the description of a KOS resource as opposed to a generic resource.? The second block of elements are intended for recording specific characteristics of a KOS resource that will facilitate the evaluation of the resource for a particular application or use.? The descriptions of these elements are incomplete and should be viewed as working descriptions.

NKOS-WG recommends that this element contain the name of one person or organization primarily responsible for the intellectual content of the resource. The element SHOULD be repeated when more than one entity is considered to have the main responsibility for the intellectual content of the resource.

The Thesaurus of Feature Types is designed to be used with a gazetteer to categorize the types of place/feature names for description and retrieval. It is designed according to the ANSI/NISO Z39.19 standard for thesaurus construction.
